The Sunda Pangolin historically occurred throughout Thailand, but has since been lost from much of the lowland areas due to human agricultural expansion and hunting. Gentle and defenceless, the primary threat to all Pangolins is hunting and poaching for international trade, which is largely driven by export trade to China, involving live animals, their meat and scales, which is believed to have medicinal properties.
